First U.S. count finds 1 in 200 kids are vegetarian

The new estimate of young vegetarians comes from a recent federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study of alternative medicine based on a survey of thousands of Americans in 2007. Information on children's diet habits was gleaned from about 9,000 parents and other adults speaking on the behalf of those under 18.

Help us to ban the barbaric declawing of cats in the USA

"The declawing of domestic cats is a cruel mutilating operation and people are having this procedure done in the United States of America, without considering the full implication of the physical and mental effect on their cats. It is banned already in 24 countries. Declawing is banned in West Hollywood, California. We petition that it should be also banned in all the rest of the United States of America."

Additives used in bacon, ham and chicken 'could make cancers grow'

A common additive used in bacon and ham could fuel the growth of cancers, research suggests. High doses of inorganic phosphate salts – which are used to enhance the texture and flavour of processed meats – increased the size of tumours in mice . Editor: of course, this tells very little on whether it has the same effect in humans - for that one would need to run the tests on humans, not mice.
