Rodale to Publish Actress Alicia Silverstone's Diet and Fitness Book

Last update: 2:48 p.m. EST Nov. 18, 2008
NEW YORK, Nov 18, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Rodale Inc. today announced its plans to publish actress and animal rights advocate Alicia Silverstone's book, "The Kind Diet," in the fall of 2009. The book explores the connection between what we put in our bodies and what we're doing to the planet, and how choosing the right foods in the kitchen can help you feeling lighter, sexier, and more alive than you ever thought possible. The book will include a 3-step diet program and 75 vegan and macrobiotic recipes. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We were equally struck by the breadth of her knowledge about environmental issues and the impact of diet on the planet as we were by the depth of her commitment to these very important causes," said publishing director, Pam Krauss. "Just as importantly, she really makes the plant-based foods that are the cornerstone of her diet sound delicious and indulgent, and her enthusiasm for her program is infectious."
Silverstone is best known for her work as 'Cher,' the quintessential Beverly Hills teenager with a heart of gold in "Clueless," written and directed by Amy Heckerling. She soon formed her production company, First Kiss, in a multi-million dollar deal with Columbia Pictures, where she produced "Excess Baggage." In addition, she co-starred in "Batman and Robin" and "Blast From the Past" opposite Brendan Fraser. Making her Broadway debut as "Elaine Robinson" in "The Graduate" starring opposite Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs, the play broke box office records, garnering $5.3 million in ticket sales before it even opened. Most recently she starred in David Mamet's "Speed The Plow" at the Geffen Playhouse opposite Jon Tenney and Greg Germann. Alicia also recently co-starred in the David Mamet play "Boston Marriage" at the Geffen Playhouse opposite Mary Steenburgen and Rebecca Pidgeon. Silverstone was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her role in "Miss Match," a one-hour NBC drama/comedy produced by Darren Star. She also works tirelessly to support numerous animal-related charities from PETA to the Amanda Foundation. PETA honored her several years ago with a Special Humanitarian Award. She and her musician husband Christopher Jarecki live with their four dogs in a solar-paneled home in Los Angeles.
