How to host an eco-quiz

This has proved a great way to include local environmental groups in veggie & vegan activity inspired and organised by Vanessa Payne of Thames Valley V&V (T3V). So here are some ideas on doing similar yourself.

Idea

eco quiz symbol from T3V As World Vegan Day had an environmental theme last year, T3V thought we’d cash in on the current media frenzy about green issues and raise the profile of veganism at the same time!

We linked up with various local organizations such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth etc and organised an Environment Quiz – on the small subject of how to save the planet!. We asked our local veggie restaurant, Café Iguana, to do the food and, over 37 people had a fun filled evening – either showing off their green knowledge to their friends or learning something new! – as well as feasting on scrummy vegan food.

The evening was so successful that Reading Borough Council asked us to help them organise a follow up – this time a discussion based game that’s taking place the end of January.

Practicalities

The hard bit is thinking up the questions. T3V can provide you with a load, though we recommend also adding some more veggie/vegan-specific and lifestyle-specific ones too. Email Show email address. if you'd like the starter set of questions, and also to give her ideas for more to share with others. Remember to keep them secret from the rest of your group!

Quiz Night Plan

  • Hold the event in a venue like a meeting room or cafe
  • Organise yummy vegan food provided in the cover price (provided by the cafe, or a bring & share or whatever)
  • Tell your group, local eco groups, the council, friendly local businesses about it and invite them to bring along a team, or just book as an individual to join a team on the day
  • Put it about on the web and also make flyers & posters to leave in your local area, such as libraries, health food shops, cafe's, etc. Ask T3V Show email address. if you'd like an electronic copy of our poster.
  • Ask for donation of prizes from local and veggie businesses (such as meals at local restaurants, goodies from the wholefood shop, etc) and mention this when you tell people about the event.
  • Advertise it as soon as possible on your website, in flyers and in the local press along with handy info from your activist's pack. You can download customisable flyers and posters here.
  • Ask Vanessa Payne Show email address. to email you the questions for your quiz and throw her a few suggestions too if you like!
  • Sort out who's going to ask the questions, give the prizes, take the entry fees, etc.
  • Bring along eco-veggie/vegan leaflets, posters and recipes too to inspire everyone there.
  • Enjoy the evening which will open the eyes of all the people there to yummy vegan food and new ideas on how to make their lives greener.

Have fun & inspire!
